When a patent pool is created, two or more companies agree to cross-license patents relating to a particular technology. As a result of patent licensing, the pooled patents may then create a new or improved technology. Since the companies, which contributed the patents, may be involved in a business using the patents, it is important that an independent patent management entity supervises the activities of the patent pool.
